Southclan Takes Maltese Paintball to the Sicilian Paintball Cup

Southclan Paintball Team Malta travelled to Sicily to participate in the Sicilian Paintball Cup in May 2016, bringing Maltese players into an event promoted as a meeting of participants from Italy, Malta and the United States.

The Maltese squad included Chris Cioffi, Jesmond Cioffi and Albert Vella.

Organised by the Sicilian Paintball League, the Cup combined speedball and woodsball across a programme advertised over two days. It welcomed beginners and experienced competitors, with separate categories for mechanical and electronic markers.

Two formats in two locations

The opening stage featured three-player speedball at LoSpazio Siracusa. The 3 versus 3 format put small teams onto the speedball field, where communication and coordination are central to each game.

The second stage was advertised as woodsball in Palazzolo Acreide, giving the event a different setting and style of play.

By combining both formats, the organisers offered participants a programme that brought together different parts of the sport, with opportunities for players of varying experience levels to take part.

A Maltese presence in Sicily

Southclan’s participation brought players from Malta into contact with the neighbouring Sicilian paintball community through competition.

For a small local scene, travelling abroad provides opportunities to meet other players, experience different fields and compete beyond the teams normally encountered at home. The Cup’s international invitation created an opportunity for Southclan to take part alongside participants from outside Malta.

Support at the event

The organisers advertised professional refereeing, a compressed-air station, paintballs available on site, refreshments, showers and other facilities. Equipment rental was also offered for participants who needed it, helping make the event accessible to newcomers.

Thank you to the Southclan players and everyone who helped make the trip possible, and to the Sicilian organisers for welcoming Maltese participation.
