Representing Malta through paintball
Malta Paintball supports teams and players who represent Malta in international paintball. This includes league competition abroad and events where players compete as a national team.
Our long-term goal is to grow the number of local players and form new teams within the Malta Paintball organisation. These teams will give players regular opportunities to train and compete, and create a pathway for developing players to progress towards the National Team.
Malta on the international field
Malta Paintball teams have competed in the CPPS league in the United Kingdom, including Division 4 in 2025 and Division 5 in 2026. In 2026, Malta made its first Nations Cup appearance at an NXL Europe event in Dreux, France.
The 2026 National Team received support from Visit Malta and gained widespread coverage in local media. The campaign raised the profile of Maltese paintball and introduced the sport to a wider audience.
From the 2027 season, our teams will compete internationally under the name Malta Paintball, including at events that do not require players to meet national team eligibility rules.
A pathway from local teams to the National Team
As local participation grows, Malta Paintball plans to establish more teams within the organisation. These teams will help players build experience through regular training and competition, creating a pathway for suitable players to progress towards international league play and the National Team.
Developing this pathway means growing the player base and building the coaching and organisational support needed to prepare teams. Read more about this work on our Player Development & Participation page.
A future women’s national team
We also aim to field a women’s national team in the future. Growing women’s participation and supporting players to develop through training and competition are important steps towards that goal.
Our Women’s Paintball Development program explains how we plan to create these opportunities and build a pathway for women in the sport.
Nations Cup eligibility and the Maltese diaspora
Nations Cup eligibility follows the rules of the United Paintball Federation (UPBF). Players representing Malta must be Maltese citizens or residents and must provide valid identification.
This creates an opportunity for Maltese players living overseas to represent Malta. There are paintball players of Maltese heritage in countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Those who hold Maltese citizenship may be eligible to compete for Malta, even if they live abroad. Some players with Maltese ancestry may also be eligible to apply for citizenship by registration, depending on their circumstances.
For information about acquiring Maltese citizenship, visit Aġenzija Komunità Malta’s citizenship by registration page.
Building experience overseas
Malta Paintball players have travelled abroad to train and compete, including training in Sicily and playing in leagues and international events. These experiences help players develop their skills and build connections with the wider paintball community.
We use what we learn overseas to support the continued development of paintball in Malta, including player preparation, team organisation and the standards needed to compete internationally.
Get involved
Players interested in representing Malta can contact Malta Paintball to learn about training, competitions and future team opportunities.
Supporters, volunteers and potential partners can also help make international participation possible.
Program status
International league participation and Nations Cup competition are active parts of Malta Paintball’s work. Developing more local teams, a pathway into the National Team and a future women’s national team are longer-term goals.
Team selection and participation depend on event eligibility, player availability and the resources needed to compete.
