More women involved. More opportunities to take part

Malta Paintball is building a pathway for more women to get involved in tournament paintball and the wider sport. The program is active, and we are recruiting. You do not need paintball experience or a tournament background to get involved. If you are curious about the sport, enjoy working as part of a team or have played another sport, we would like to hear from you.

You do not need to own tournament equipment to express your interest. Malta Paintball has a limited amount of loan equipment available, and we are applying for grants to expand the equipment pool and support more players.

If playing is not for you, there are other ways to be part of the team. You could help with photography, refereeing, pit crew, event support or the association’s governance and leadership.

You can start here

Women who have played paintball before are welcome, whether you have played recreationally or competed in tournaments. We are also looking for women who have never played but are interested in trying a new sport.

Experience in another sport can be useful, but it is not a requirement. Paintball involves movement, communication, quick decisions and teamwork. These are skills that can be learned and developed through practice.

Getting involved does not have to mean playing. We want women to take part at every level, including as players in women’s and mixed teams, photographers, referees, pit crew, volunteers and members of the Malta Paintball executive team. We believe women should have opportunities across every part of the sport. That broad involvement is essential to growing women’s paintball in Malta.

Building a team for Malta

We are working to grow the number of women playing paintball in Malta and do not yet have enough players to field a full team. Recruiting and developing more players is the first step.

Our goal is to build opportunities for women to train and compete together, play alongside men in mixed teams, and, in time, represent Malta as a women’s national team. We are working with the United Paintball Federation (UPBF) towards entering a team in the 2027 Nations Cup. Entry will depend on building a suitable roster and meeting the event’s requirements.

This program connects with Malta Paintball’s wider Player Development & Participation pathway and our National Team & Nations Cup program.

Women’s paintball is growing

Women have always played paintball, but they have often been underrepresented in tournament teams and competition. Dedicated women’s divisions and teams are helping create more visibility, opportunities and role models for players at every level.

The Women’s National Xball League (WNXL) has professional divisions in the United States and Europe, as well as amateur competition. Major League Paintball reports that women’s participation in its national tournaments has increased by 62% since the WNXL was established in 2021.

Women’s tournament paintball includes players with different backgrounds and levels of experience. The WNXL and teams competing in Europe show that there are opportunities to develop from learning the game to playing at a high level. Malta Paintball wants women in Malta to have a pathway into that wider community.

Working with the international community

We are working with international paintball organisations, including the UPBF, as we develop the program and prepare for future competition.

We are grateful for the support of Women in Tournament Paintball and European women’s teams, including Team Karma Paintball. Their experience and encouragement help us connect players in Malta with the wider women’s tournament paintball community.

Where the program stands now

The women’s development program is underway, and recruitment is active. We are still building the player base and do not yet have enough players to field a full team. Some loan equipment is available, and grant applications are in progress to help expand the program.

Our next steps are to recruit more players, develop regular training opportunities and build towards entering a team in the 2027 Nations Cup. We also want to grow women’s participation in roles across the sport, from the playing field to event operations and association leadership.
